The Big Show Is Over…
After almost a year of planning, topped by 2000 miles of walking in 3 days, the RnR show is now history.
Rhody Cruiser members have worked on the Committee, came down early to setup, provided “Visitor Services” for Friday’s Show, and even more staffed entry gates, Raffle Tables and helped with dozens of things that needed doing all weekend. Without rolling out a big list of names, I just want to thank those Volunteers who made this possible. I am proud, and feel like this is a Rhody Cruisers event almost as much as Florence Area Chamber of Commerce.     …Thanx for playing with us.

Rods ‘n Rhodies Best of Show.
I almost fell over every time I walked by this Little Red Hot Rod. It is a 33 Ford 3 Window Coupe. A period correct dry lakes racer, from back in the day. The detail is amazing, and the overall look just knocks me out.
I doubt it has ever seen much salt, as it is a new build.

Everyone I talked to said…
“Yeah, Best of Show.”
Hey Dan… Mind if I take it around the block?

R ‘n R • Best Costal Cruiser

OregonCoastHotRods.com presented its coveted “Best Coastal Cruiser” award Sunday afternoon. This was NOT a tough choice for me, as I knew on Friday who won. As the moment arrived, I asked Russ to let me do the presentation. I wanted to explain that the award is not for the flashiest paint or most horsepower. I look for a car that has a family, a job, and takes care of the family, getting them home safe, …and looking really good doing it. … This winner joins a growing list “Coastal Cruiser” recipients now in the 4th year.

“It is my pleasure to present an award, that I didn’t pay for, to a car that was not entered.” and the winner is …..
A car that was workin’ at the show for 3 days. It pulls a 5800 pound trailer around and runs the best outdoor sound system ever.
This 1969 Chevelle Wagon, was built in the memory of his son. Owned and built by Russ Strohmeyer.
It was the Stro’s Show that kept everything grooving.

reRun… Leno’s Hot Rod MG TD

mqdefaultSunday afternoon, after Football… Checking all my email addresses, hoping someone would write… YouTube did, so I’m checking out
Jay Leno and his ’52 MG TD HotRod… This MG is all HotRod.
I love the classic Fendered Roadster look, and american sound.

I’m a small car guy, and I have HotRodded British cars before… They really are small.
Jay Leno gets a little bitchy about the legroom as he hangs out with the builder.

From The 2015 Rods ‘N Rhodies Invitational…

Another Rods ‘N Rhodies is in the books.
What a great weekend. We had 103 cars from all over Oregon, plus amazing cars from British Columbia, Washington, and California.
Best of Show is that little dark green ’36 Ford coupe. Great fun for me was getting a ride in the winner down to Mo’s where we did a photo shoot for next years poster. There were many well deserved Merchant awards, and lots of volunteers hustling around. Here are a few of my pictures.

Best Coastal Cruiser 2015…

Oregon Coast Hot Rods will again Award the coveted Best Coastal Cruiser at the Rods ‘N Rhodes Invitational Car Show on Sept 9-10.

From my Facebook Post 2015:
Previously on Oregon Coast Hot Rods {…Oregon Coast Hot Rods will be presenting a Merchant Award this year. “Best Coastal Cruiser”.} This was as tough as I had feared. I was close with a sweet Chevy II, a 51 Chevy hauler, and a few others. I love vintage cars, more than bling. I just kept coming back to the ’51 Chevy Suburban. It is owned by Dave Surmon and his wife Linda from Albany OR. This Suburban started life in the Air Force. After it was discharged it got a job as a School Bus. Then it dropped out and became a Hippie Hauler in Berkeley, with Rainbows and Flowers no doubt. The remnants were picked up, and taken to a farm where its new owners did extensive restoration and upgrades. Today, with Dave’s help, it is a fabulous cruiser with lots of room for family and fun. Kool Coastal Nights – Burnout Review

This from my 2015
Facebook Post

I invited everyone to join me, but even with no takers, I fired up the old Vega, and had a great run down to Winchester Bay for the Kool Costal Nights Burnouts Contest. When I arrived there were lots of show cars settled into their parking spot ready for Saturday morning. Some guys told me the action was across the marina. There were lots of bikers, families and kids. The action was already underway with all the tall people crowded up against the barricades. It turns out there were only 6 vehicles. 3 Camaros, and 3 pickups. With only a couple stoplight style burnouts, it mostly involved locking down the front, water the pavement, and fry the tires until they exploded and burst into flame. This takes a couple minutes to reach the conclusion, creating a very large cloud of rubber smoke, sure to qualify as an environmental disaster. After the offending vehicle limped away on blackened shop wheels and the crowd cheered, the Fire Department ran out with extinguishers and raked up the smoldering debris. …It was something to do, but I think for next year… I’m just going down to the Beachcomber and have a couple beers.
